Every day Iowans struggle to find healthy nutritious food at an affordable cost to feed their families. Hunger in Iowa and around the United States is a very real thing. One in every 9 children are food insecure in Warren County and in 2020 Warren County saw a 29% projected increase of food insecurity and a 35% projected increase of child food insecurity between 2019-2020. When you Give:
When you donate to The Helping Hand of Warren County, you join the fight against food insecurity and decreasing food waste. You support our food recovery and transportation teams that go into grocery stores and collect food that can be placed in community refrigerators across our county, senior centers, low income housing, trailer parks, schools, churches and more.
When you donate - you build an individual up by giving them the essentials to make healthier choices because we understand the critical connection between a healthy body and a healthy mind.
Monetary Donations:
Monetary donations give us the opportunity to purchase items that are needed in our food and personal care pantries at a discount rate through the Food Bank of Iowa and local grocery and retail stores. For example, there are times when we can purchase 12 - 14oz cans of spaghetti sauce for a total of $1.50 or receive 10% off our entire purchase from our local Hy-Vee.
How to become a Community Sponsor?
Sponsors come in all shapes, sizes and have all different talents and skills. We strongly believe our donors are heroes in our community. A community hero is an individual, family or business that would like to make a monthly commitment to our mission. Our community heroes understand the need to provide the very best food for our community and believe in our efforts to decrease food waste, fight food insecurity and show compassion throughout the journey.
